Celebrity Mom Shares Experience with Cord Blood Banking
Chrissie Swan, Australian radio host and Big Brother winner, has just given birth to her second child. She and her husband decided to bank their child's cord blood, and have shared their experience doing so with EssentialBaby.com.au.
After hearing the story of a friend, whose son was diagnosed with Leukemia, Swan was convinced that banking her child's cord blood would be a worthwhile decision. She was informed that the child began to show significant signs of improvement after receiving a cord blood transplant, and decided that if her child was ever to fall ill, cord blood banking would be a good investment.
"Storing your cord blood is the ultimate insurance policy against the unthinkable," says Swan.
After having that conversation, Chrissie made the decision to consider cord blood banking should she have another child - and she's delivered on her promise. Swan and her husband welcomed their second son into the world this month, and enlisted in the help of a private bank to store their child's cord blood.
She recognizes that the cost of cord blood banking can be more expensive than most families can afford. However, Chrissie believes that the cost of storing cord blood for up to 21 years is worth the peace of mind with which expecting parents like Chrissie Swan are provided.
