Local News Promotes Cord Blood Banking

Across North America, many expecting parents still do not know about the many benefits of banking their children's cord blood. However, media sources have taken it upon themselves to spread the word about cord blood technology. One such source is ABC 7 News in Denver, which has recently featured a piece on the benefits of cord blood banking.

According to the feature, by Ana Cabrera, cord blood technology is relatively new. The breakthrough was made in the 1970s, but it continues to show promise today. Currently, there are over 75 different diseases that are treatable by cord blood and the list of medication condition continues to grow.

"There's a lot of potential disorders that it could treat, like maybe cerebral palsy and Type 1 diabetes," says Cord Blood Specialist Sarah Kuenne.

Many hospitals across Colorado are also promoting the use of cord blood banking. As part of the University of Colorado's cord blood banking program, expecting parents at St. Joseph's and other local hospitals are informed about the many benefits of cord blood banking. Thanks to St. Joseph's work, over 250 cord blood units have been used in transplants all over the world.

It seems that just knowing about the benefits of the technology is enough to convince many parents to take part in cord blood banking and donation. So, it is important for members of the community - including news sources and medical practioners - to help spread the word about the benefits of banking cord blood.
