Program Launched to Support Stem Cell Research

Toronto’s own McEwen Centre has launched a new program to inform the general public about stem cell research. Titled Stem Cell City, the aim of the new program is to teach people about the benefits of cord blood and bone marrow banking.

McEwen Centre believes that stem cell research is the future of medicine. There have been many breakthroughs recently that indicate cord blood, bone marrow and other blood cells will be able to treat hundreds of diseases in the future. However, most of the public remains in the dark about the benefits of stem cells  - and Stem Cell City hopes to make a difference.

Premier Dalton McGuinty has praised the program:

“There has never been a better or more appropriate time to bring all the best information together in one place here in Ontario to keep people informed on the best research going on around the world.”

Those who join Stem Cell City can receive information from the centre on one or more of the following topics: future initiatives, heart, neurology, diabetes, blood or lung. After making a selection, members will be sent regular updates to keep themselves information about the advancements taking place in world of regenerative medicine.

Members of Stem Cell City can also donate to the cause and direct their support to different areas of research in order to fund the cause they are most passionate about.
