For sure it is an exciting time for Mom’s when the first baby is expected.  For Dads however we may feel left out a bit – but it sure is fun when we get to choose all the fun stuff. Sure, while my wife decided on nursery themes and paint colours, I got to decide on the Car seats, stroller and of course the toy inventory.

Part 1 – The stroller

Ladies, leave the mechanical to us, we love it. We may even get to talk shop with the guys who build this stuff and assemble axles and wheels and brakes.

As a Dad to be, I had fun checking out the stats and carry weights, just how compact these things can fold down to fit neatly in the truck beside the golf bag. We eventually went for a Peg Perego Uno. It is worth the extra bucks as it is only one that we found that has hands free Dodge caravan style “Stow and Go”. The Peg Perego Uno has excellent weight distribution, only 22lbs, so easy to fit in the trunk or in the roof box for those long haul trips. The hood, which can be opened with a zipper, can turn into a sun canopy. The stroller is equipped to allow you to easily fasten the Primo Viaggio car seat to the stroller.

Technical Specs:

•    lacquered aluminum frame

•    front wheel diameter 17,2 cm

•    back wheel diameter 26,2 cm

•    weight 10,2 kg

•    carriage dimensions W 59 H 100 L 103 (cm)

•    stroller dimensions W 59 H 100 L 89 (cm)

•    closed dimensions W 34 H 80 (cm)

•    book folding system

Another neat idea is you can also have the baby can facing both ways, and it reclines easy. Some of the models we checked out had a Velcro strap and buckle that was just a pain in the neck to undo. This one has a sturdy metal bar that has three positions for your little protégée to sit up or lay back and enjoy the ride.

The larger front wheels allow you to take it on most hike trails without too much trouble  It is nice for me as I live in a woodsy area and need the sturdiness of it, I can take it places no other stroller has been!!  But whatever you do…don’t jog with it oaky!

It has a good hand brake, as well as two locking wheel brakes. The rear tires can be inflated easy but like all good mechanics – check the tire pressures regularly! The only issue I have – where do you put the oil and windshield wash fluid!!
